My first son was born 4 years ago now and was undiagnosed breech. This means they didn't actually realise he was breech until he was coming out (apparently quite rare). However everything went fine and I delivered Samuel naturally and only needing gas & air for pain relief. I pushed his body out and the midwife delivered his head safely. It was a scarey moment when they realised he was breech - the room filled with doctors and senior midwives. I just listened to my husband for instructions and did exactly what I was told to do and it was all fine - I didn't even need any stitches! I was actually pleased they didn't know he was breech because they would have given me a c-section if they had known and I wanted to avoid that at all costs.
My 2nd son, Archie, was also breech (born 2006). This time they monitored me much more closely through the pregnancy and at 38 weeks said I could either try to give birth naturally, as I had done with Samuel, although the risks are high, or I could have a c-section, or I could have an ECV to see if the baby could be turned and therefore born the right way round. I opted for an ECV and it was successful, so thankfully I was able to give birth to my son the right way round, and it made a huge difference - 2 pushes and he was out! I wouldn't actually advise an ECV having had one. The pain was excrushiating and I have since found out that there has not been any research into if there is any effect on the baby once it's born. There's so much force on such a tiny baby that I'm certain the trauma can't be good for it.
anyway, those are my stories and hopefully they are helpful to anyone with a breech baby. If I have any more I'm not sure what I'll opt for but I know it won't be an ECV!
